Forest Stewardship Plan
Amendment Requiring Approval #4
Canadian Forest Products Ltd (Canfor) has made amendments to the Forest Development Unit (FOU) within the Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) under which the company operates.
The following outlines the changes made: As per Section 5(1) (a) (ii) of the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA); a forest stewardship plan must include a map that shows the boundaries of all forest development units and
Section 29(b) of Forest Planning and Practices Regulation (FPPR); material change to an existing forest development unit
The addition to the FDU pertains to the addition of the Dastaiga Creek parcel that is now infested with Spruce Beetle; this area was previously excluded from Canfor’s FDU. The area is now being added to Canfor’s FDU to allow Canfor to plan, permit, treat and harvest forested stands that are now infested with Spruce Beetle. This course of action follows discussions between Canfor and the Ministry of Forest Lands and Natural Resource Operations.
All results and strategies within Canfor’s existing Forest Stewardship Plan will apply to the FDU addition. No other changes are being proposed to the FSP at this time.
The above amendment has been approved without public consultation. Operations within the amended portion will commence in February 2017.
